| Description | Essential Skills Managers’ Network Meeting14th June 2007 Caer Beris Hotel Key Skills up-date - Dr Cheryl Morgan provided updates in the following areas Dr Cheryl Morgan congratulated all on the healthy state of key skills in Wales as demonstrated in the statistical evidence provided. Dr Morgan then provided an update on the situation for key skills post election ITT George Walker from Dysg has the lead on the development of the Initial Teacher Training National Occupational Standards. Three delegates: Maliika Kaaba, Sylvia Fisher and Billy Dunn had attended the LLUK consultation events and provided additional information. The main concern arising from attendance at these consultation events was “where do key skills and basic skills fit into the ITT Standards” Convergence Implications for Entry Level learners Preparation for new converged standards from 2010 Developments in England, particularly in relation to Functional Skills Schools need to do a lot more to meet the challenges of integrating Key Skills at Key Stage 4. Request that Dysg provide delegates with further update at the November 07 Schools Network Day. Delegate’s ideas and concerns on the issue of convergence were recorded and will be fed back to Mali Davies DECLLS (Q&C, VQLL) Functional SkillsCM gave an update on the position in Wales · A few schools are piloting the new Maths GCSE which incorporates Functional Skills · At present there are no plans to introduce functional skills either alongside or to replace Key Skills in Wales · A briefing paper is being prepared by Vocational Qualifications & Lifelong Learning Division (VQLL) and will be circulated shortly · Wider Key Skills will not be affected by the changes Work Based Learning Update– Kim Clark The implications and concerns about the National Planning and Funding System The Closing the Gap Project |
