The members of the Key Skills Experts' Panel were delighted with the presentations and the opportunity for informed discussions. The Guest speakers were Peter McGowan (Vocational Skills Champion) and Berni Tyler, ( formally Project Officer with the WBQ). The participants were so engaged in the lively and informed debate following the presentations that the meeting overran by 30 minutes.

KSWBL are offering a number of different training events concentrating on embedding key skills: Embedding Key Skills, Be Confident Embedding Number and Embedding Wider Key Skills - all the events are specifically designed for work based learning organisations and delegates will receive free packs and resources.  Events are free to attend.

5 December 06 - Best Western St Mellons Hotel, Cardiff

This free event aims to support key skills in work based learning by focussing on both the employers' perspective and teh apprentices' perspective.  The event will be in two parts.  The morning concentrates on  key skills and employer engagement.  The afternoon focus' on two specific areas for supporting the learning in work based learning.

We would encourage Marketing Managers to attend along with Key Skills Managers, Trainers and Assessors.

There have been three meetings of the Key Skills Expert Panel so far: 11th April 2006, 13th July 2006, and 18th October 2006.  Presentations and reports are now available for download.

Training events are planned to support the embedding of key skills in work based learning.  The sessions provide clarification of the key skills standards, and offer practical advice and support for trainers that include strategies to help support learners in developing and using a range of vital skills.
