An Evaluation was undertaken to investigate the impact of the Key Skills Professional Development (KSPD) programme and qualification on the teaching and learning of key skills in Wales.  The Evaluation looked specifically at the impact of the KSPD programme on:

 

  • practitioners’ attitudes to key skills
  • how key skills are taught and delivered
  • learners’ attitudes to key skills
  • learners’ take-up and attainment of key skills
  • practitioners’ confidence in assessing key skills

Dysg organised the second home international research seminar which took place on the 29th and 30th  March in Cardiff.  Delegates attended from each of the four home nations and included those responsible for policy-linked research within Government Departments, funding bodies, inspectorates and the academic research community.

The remit of the home international research network is to share current research activity and policy priority areas and to identify ways of working together across the home nations.

This year’s seminar focussed on skills and the Leitch Review.

The Nuffield Review investigates 14-19 education and training in England and Wales on behalf of the Nuffield Foundation who provide the Review Group with a grant to undertake their work.   In order to compile the report, the Nuffield group review policy evidence as well as speaking to stakeholders from the sector, in both England and Wales.  This is the third Review to be published, and looks at policy and policy tools, with particular focus on Specialised Diplomas, progression into the labour market or HE and also looks at the underlying aims and values of the system.  We summarised the report under the following headings:

ICT Usage in Teaching and Learning: South west Wales PDF Print E-mail

The following report details findings of a Dysg research project which explored current issues relating to the usage of ICT in teaching and learning. The project focussed specifically on South West Wales and involved providers from across the post-14 sector.

The overall objective of the research was to gain an in-depth understanding of how ICT is currently used in post 14 teaching and learning in South West Wales and factors affecting this usage. The sample was taken from across the post 14 sector and included schools, colleges, work based learning and adult and community learning providers. The report highlights drivers and barriers to the usage of ICT , support requirements and anticipated future developments.
