Key Skills Support Programme

Key Skills are an interrelating set of transferable skills underpinning both study and employability. They are recognised and accredited in England, Wales and Northern Ireland. Key Skills play a major role in raising the standards for learning in Wales.  They are becoming increasingly popular as demonstrated by the increased number of Key Skills Awards in Wales since they were introduced in 2000.

Open letter from Dr. Cheryl Morgan

Dear friends and colleagues

After 7 years leading the Key Skills Support Programme Cymru I will be moving to a new position within DCELLS as of 1 April 2008. I am pleased to tell you that Kim Clark and Jeff will continue to lead the KSSPC and that Helen Arthur has been named as the new Head of Learning and Teaching Strategies Branch which incorporates pedagogy and Key Skills Support Programme Cymru. Lesley is leaving the KSSPC team and moving to Swansea office to work in the South West and Mid Wales Area Team as a Provider Performance & Educational Effectiveness Officer. I am sure that you will want to thank her for her sterling work over the past 3+ years.

Future plans:

  1. Key Skills Support Programme Cymru is alive and well and has been merged with the new Learning and Teaching Strategies Branch within the Learning and Professional Development Division of DCELLS.
  2. Staffing:
  3. KSSPC training and networks:  A schedule of events for 2008-09 will be published along with a more detailed programme in due course.
  4. Key Skills CPD:  The key skills CPD programmes:  KSPD, Coaching and Mentoring for Key Skills and Key-line online support will continue in their present forms.
  5. Dysg website:  The Dysg website and e-dysg moodle will continue in their present form.  We will continue to migrate the Key Skills resources and good practice case studies to the Ngfl-Cymru website

I would like to say that it has been my privilege and pleasure to work with each and every one of you.  I know that through your leadership key skills  (and the revised converged skills) will continue to flourish. I know that our paths will continue to cross and look I am looking forward to new challenges and experiences within DCELLS.

Warmly

Cheryl
